30 Amazing Advertising Tips (part 2)

6) Carry business cards with you wherever you go. Have your web address printed on them. You can hand them out to anyone you meet. Just think of all the people you meet on a regular basis: grocery clerks, post office workers, bag boys, family members, friends, salesmen/women, etc. You can also leave them at restaurants, car washes, barber shops! I even look around inside every building I enter to see if there is a bulletin board or place to pin up one of my cards, you know, like the ones at the laundry mat or library… Basically, anywhere there are people, leave your business card.

7) Contact national radio stations to ask them if they are looking for guest speakers. Tell them your area of expertise; maybe they’ll book you for a show. Of course you would want to contact targeted stations and shows which would want to know more about you and your area of expertise.

8 ) Join clubs related to your area of business. You could trade leads with other businesses. Learn new ways to run your business and sell your products. You could also create your own online business club. You could provide private chat rooms, message boards, articles, etc.

9) Think of a domain name for your web site that’s easy to remember. It should be related to what your business does, sells or provides. If there aren’t any business names available, use your actual birth name. You could at least brand yourself. Your own name will give you credibility.

10) Position your web site at the top of pay-per-click search engines. You will only pay your set amount for each click-through you get to your web site. Just make sure your profits will pay for your advertising cost. If they won’t, maybe you could share a web site with another related business and split the costs.

30 Amazing Advertising Tips (Part 1)

How are you today? As I was sitting here listening to the rain hitting the window, I though about when I first started marketing on the Internet. Wow, those were scary times. There were no how-to ebooks on the subject to speak of, and if there were, you probably had to know someone on the inside just to get them…

Even way back then I was thinking about being the one who could bring this information to the Internet, once I found it! But when I started to research this idea back in the early BG (before google) days, every result I got was negative.

Everyone insisted there was NO market for training the average person to make a living online! Ha! Well we certainly showed them a thing or two didn’t we? Look at us now!

So in keeping with what I Always knew their was a market for, I am going to continue to give back to that market which has been so good to me! Mostly I’ll try to use this site (blog) as a fr.ee portal where you can easily find information on the topics of Internet Marketing and Advertising Online. Also a couple of other related topics here and there.

I’ll be posting 5 tips per day. That way no one is overwhelmed. Although these are quick and easy tips, posting only a few per day will allow you to comment on a daily basis if you wish.

So let’s get started on those 30 Amazing Advertising Tips shall we…

1) Tell your prospective customers Exactly what kind of support they’ll get after they buy. It could be free consulting, tech support, free servicing, upgrades, etc. This may also answer some of their buying questions ahead of time. People don’t want to buy products without knowing you will be there to help if they have problems. So let them know Before they buy that customer service is your Top priority. It’s such a pity that so many companies have lost sight to just how much a satisfied, repeat customer is truly worth…

2) Ask people at the end of their visit, with an exit poll or even better, the new exit grabber script, why they decided not to buy. This will give you new ideas on how to produce ad copy that’s more profitable. Have a web form or e-mail link in place so they can answer you and offer a them a quality reward related to the product they just read about for taking the time to let you know just why they didn’t buy. You may find out they don’t like your price, guarantee or graphics. It could be anything. Could be the Big Flashing Neon banner telling them they’re a winner! ;)

3) Think of ways to get your site or business in the news, Any news. You could sponsor a fund raiser, break a world record, hold a major event, etc. (don’t get too crazy) You could do something as simple as writing a press release about what you’ve accomplished, then send it to media outlets that cater to your target audience.

4) Hold a contest on your web site. Give other web sites the option of offering it to their visitors. This will multiply your advertising all over the Internet. It would become a viral contest. Of course the contest must either be ongoing or held regularly so you could allow other online publishers to offer it to their visitors or subscribers.

5) Tell your potential customers that your ordering system is highly secure. Also reassure them that you take every effort to protect them. People want to feel they are safe online. They want to know that you care about their well-being. Tell them all about what you currently do for them to make them feel more secure.

Three Words Guaranteed To Make Your Sales Letter Fail…Get Rid Of Them And Watch Your Responses Skyrocket!

When reviewing clients’ ads, sales letters, brochures, and other sales pieces there are three words that always need to be deleted to make the letter more effective in generating responses.

Before you hear what the words are, let’s make sure that you know where the emphasis of your ads or letters should be. The emphasis, of course, should always be on your customer.

You’ll want to speak to your readers needs, wants, desires, and fears.

That’s how you’ll be able to get your message into your prospects’ emotional level brain so that your customer will take action. Remember, all decisions are made on an emotional basis first and then justified by logic later (see “How To Make Your Ads, Sales Letters, And Websites Sell Like Crazy” book for more details).

And the best way to get to your prospects emotional brain is to speak of the benefits your customer receives by purchasing your product/service…not the features…but the benefits.

As a reminder, BENEFITS are the RESULTS your customer will receive by doing business with you and features are the distinguishing characteristics of your product/service.

It’s great that your product/service has distinguishing characteristics (features) that separate you from your competition, however, if you show your prospect the desired RESULTS you can provide, then you’re showing your customers the BENEFITS received by purchasing your products/services.

Okay, so what are these three words guaranteed to make your ads and sales letters fail?

They are the words that completely take the focus off of your customer…these three words do not speak to your customers’ emotions…these three words do nothing to instill desire in your prospect for your product/service…the three words to get rid of in your ads and sales letters are, “I…Me…My”.

These three words put the emphasis and spotlight on you, the writer, instead of your customer/prospect. There is no way for you to communicate to your reader’s emotions if you only speak about yourself (”I, me, my”). You’ve got to be writing to your reader, about your reader and your reader’s hopes, desires,. wants, dreams, and fears.

That’s how you get them to respond to your offer.

Now here’s something that you may find interesting.

Have you noticed that in this discussion, that the words “I, me, or my” have not been used?

YOU…have been the complete focus of this discussion…YOU and YOUR customers and prospects.

And at first it’s pretty hard to get the words “I, me, my” out of your writing.

Why is that, you ask?

Well, it’s because of…you guessed it…your own emotions.

All humans, “way down deep”, are only interested in their own wants and desires. That’s “way down deep” on the subconscious levels (see the discussion in the “…Sell Like Crazy” book about the three brains and how to communicate with each).

So that’s why it’s hard at first to get rid of these three words.

But fortunately for your bank account, you can learn to delete “I, me, my” from your vocabulary and learn to turn phrases into “you, your, and yours” that put the spotlight where it belongs, which is on your customer/prospect.

This one little change in your ads and letters will increase your effectiveness and your results immediately.

So here’s what you do now.

Go through your ads and letters and re-write any sentence that has the words “I, me, my” in them. By doing this, you’ll automatically have to place the spotlight on your customers, which will help you communicate the desired results (benefits) of your product/service to your customers own wants and desires.

Now sometimes it just seems impossible to get around using an “I, me, or my” in a sentence (but make sure you don’t give up too easy). When this occurs, use the words “we, us, our” instead. This will soften the focus on “I, me, my” and give you a little springboard to get back to using the words “you, your, yours”. But make sure that you’ve tried every which way to phrase the sentence using “you, your, yours” first.

So What Is Advertising Anyway?

Is it something to be regarded as a work of beauty or art?
Is it clever slogans or amusing prose?
Is it workmanship to be judged for an award or recognition?

It’s none of the above…

Advertising is Salesmanship Multiplied.

Nothing more.

And advertising copy, or copy writing, is salesmanship in print.

The purpose of a copywriter’s job is to sell. Period.

The selling is accomplished by persuasion with the written word, much like a television commercial sells (if done properly) by persuading with visuals and audio.

As Claude Hopkins wrote in his timeless classic, Scientific Advertising:

“To properly understand advertising or to learn even its rudiments one must start with the right conception. Advertising is salesmanship. Its principles are the principles of salesmanship. Successes and failures in both lines are due to like causes. Thus every advertising question should be answered by the salesman’s standards.“Let us emphasize that point. The only purpose of advertising is to make sales. It is profitable or unprofitable according to its actual sales.“It is not for general effect. It is not to keep your name before the people. It is not primarily to aid your other salesmen. Treat it as a salesman. Force it to justify itself. Compare it with other salesmen. Figure its cost and result. Accept no excuses which good salesmen do not make. Then you will not go far wrong.“The difference is only in degree. Advertising is multiplied salesmanship. It may appeal to thousands while the salesman talks to one. It involves a corresponding cost. Some people spend $10 per word on an average advertisement. Therefore every ad should be a super-salesman.

“A salesman’s mistake may cost little. An advertiser’s mistake may cost a thousand times that much. Be more cautious, more exacting, therefore. A mediocre salesman may affect a small part of your trade. Mediocre advertising affects all of your trade.”

These points are as true today as they were when they were written nearly one hundred years ago!

So the goal then becomes: how can we make our advertising as effective as possible.

The answer is to test. Test again. And then test some more.

If ad “A” receives a two percent response rate, and ad “B” receives three percent, then we can deduce that ad “B” will continue to outperform ad “A” on a larger scale.

Testing takes time, however, and can be expensive if not kept in check. Therefore, it’s ideal to start with some proven tested known ideas and work from there.

For example, if testing has shown for decades or more that targeted advertising significantly outperforms un-targeted advertising (and it does), then we can start with that assumption and go from there.

If we know based on test results that crafting an ad that speaks directly to an individual performs better than addressing the masses (again, it does), then it makes little sense to start testing with the assumption that it does not. This is common sense.

So it stands to reason that knowing some basic rules or techniques about writing effective copy is in order. Test results will always trump everything, but it’s better to have a starting point before you test.

But I can’t emphasize enough that when using these techniques, you should always test them before rolling out a large (and expensive) campaign.

Get What You Want With 7 Powerful Steps

In my most recent columns we’ve covered issues about improving your business and marketing, but today let’s talk about your hopes and desires. What is it that you have perhaps buried deep in your heart? What is your passion?

You’re really getting tired of the 9 to 5 “rat race” and are thinking about chucking it for your own business, otherwise you probably wouldn’t be reading a blog with this type of theme…

All your friends keep telling you that you could do for yourself just what you’re doing now for your boss. Why shouldn’t you profit from your ideas instead of him?

You keep thinking about it because you know that you’ll never be financially where you want to be with a weekly paycheck, but what business would you start?

Before you pack in that weekly paycheck, this would be a good time to evaluate yourself and your future. And let me tell you, evaluating yourself takes some real, down to earth honesty. You want to change your life for the better, so where do you start?

Did you know that you have the potential to do and be anything you want? People have different perceptions of the ideal life, and it ranges from obtaining financial freedom to as simple as owning a new pair of sneakers. Unfortunately, many fail to reach their aspirations because they can’t get a solid, clear picture in their mind of what they want. It’s not as easy as it was when you were little and grown-ups asked you “what do you want to be when you grow up”…

The Internet has opened a Whole New set of attainable goals and if you let your mind lead the way, you can easily end up jumping from one seemingly good opportunity to the next. This can be a really costly path! You need longevity.

Take the next few days and embark on a fact-finding journey that will lead you to a life-changing experience. Get a pad and pencil and start with this first step:

STEP 1 - KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT –

Be specific in your passions, then focus all your efforts on that particular desire.

Those who always change their minds and those who give up easily when the going gets tough will never get anywhere. If you’re a bit confused and aren’t sure what you really want in life, you are NOT alone. So armed with your pad and pencil, answer each these questions:
1.What makes your heart beat with excitement?
2.What makes you happy?
3.What are you constantly thinking of day and night?
4.What do you want to do with the rest of your life?
5.What do you enjoy doing?
6.What are your obsessions?
7.What things make you jump for joy?

Write down all your possible answers to the above questions. Write down everything, no matter how silly or unimportant it seems. Put all your desires on paper that answers any of the above questions. Follow your heart’s passion and it will correctly set your mind’s determination.

MOST Importantly… Be honest with yourself!

When that’s done, go back and circle five to seven items that interest you the most. Then evaluate and choose with your heart, not your mind, the one and only thing worthy to spend all your time and resources on and that brings out the best in you.

Now you may wind up with something like, “I want to play quarterback for the RAMS.” If you’re over 20 and you’ve never played football, I’d say that isn’t too viable a choice, but you could do something related to football or sports. How about starting a sports publication? Or perhaps a sporting goods retail business, sports memorabilia business, or even a gym could be the answer. You can always read books and surf the net to help you in your search. You’ll have to dig deeper and deeper to find your rewards.

The most important thing to remember, no matter how “pie in the sky” it seems, is to USE YOUR HEART. Others may disagree with you, but you should be firm with what you really want. Others may offer comments or advice, but the final decision is always yours to make. You should concentrate on what YOU want, not what others want for you…

Remember you only get one shot at living your life. There are no replays and you don’t get a do over. You may not do it right at first, but at least you’re doing it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be…

 We all tend to be a little too hard on ourselves. Try looking at yourself as though you are your best friend. I have done much soul searching these last couple of years. And I’ve found and compiled quite a library of excellent books on the various topics that some call ’self-improvement’. There are Many resources out there that can help you better understand how to develop you own Emotional Freedom Technique. But of the many I’ve seen there’s only a handful worth the time you invest. To see one of the resources that helped me the most visit this site to learn what helped me to dramatically increase my self-worth and improve the way I perceive myself.

Too many lives have been lived in quiet desperation waiting until – until they had saved a nest egg, until the children are out of school, until I retire, and they depart this life before “until” ever arrives.

Don’t go to sleep tonight without thinking about making a decision on WHAT YOU REALLY WANT IN LIFE MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. Then spend a few days evaluating how to make it possible and make a living at it. Begin living every day as if it were the last day you had – never leaving anything to be done next week, next month, or next year.

No More Waiting Until…

There will always be bills, things will always break down eventually and need replacing, there may be storms and earthquakes and repairs – but there will only be one life for you to live. It can’t be put on “hold”!

The final outcome of your efforts may be in the future, but you’re living each day by taking steps toward that outcome. More often than you may think, this in itself can be very rewarding.

Are Joint Venture Giveaway Events Worth It?

Can Giveaways Build A List?

You bet they can! Giveaway Events are Great for getting quality products for fr.ee! But did you know that a recent development in the IM community of being invited to Joint Venture with the sponsors of some of these Giveaway Events can really boost your list building efforts. I have personally added hundreds of subscribers to my own list by joining these giveaways. Some of you reading this now may have found me this way!

Now, you Do have to be selective in your decision about which of these events you decide to joint venture with. Be sure to read the terms, conditions and requirements/rules of the giveaway event you are considering. Use the contact information on the sign up page to learn just how responsive the sponsor is to his/her jv partners. If you don’t receive a reply to your inquiry, try again, many things are lost out there in cyberspace… Give them the benefit of doubt. If you again do Not receive a reply, move on…

So How Does This Work?

It’s really a lot easier than you might think. First, you have to be invited by the sponsor or one of their JV Partners. Since you know me, that’s the easiest part! In fact, I am inviting eligible JV partners to a couple of giveaways I’m involved with right now… To meet most sponsors requirements is usually not too hard either. Some only require you to promote the giveaway to remain as a JV partner. Others may want you to already have a list of ‘X’ amount of subscribers before you can join. Sponsors will vary…

Next, you must have your own quality product that will be of interest to the visitors of the giveaway site. If you are a member of my site PapaJoesWorld, then this shouldn’t be a problem either. You will find many Private Label Rights products there from which you can easily make one your own.

Now, you’ll need to have an autoresponder to capture the email addresses of your new subscribers and send out your free gift and any follow ups. If you’ve known me for very long, you know I always Highly Recommend Aweber, they even offer a fr.ee test drive now if you want to check them out. There are others out there that are good, but of all I’ve used in the past, they are the best!

Can Anyone Do This?

Of course they can! All it takes is a little determination, focus and the ability to apply a few simple steps and follow through. The first time I did a joint venture giveaway, I found it easier to put all my ducks in a row, so to speak…

I made a simple notepad list of what I was going to need to fill in the form once I signed up as a JV partner. It looked something like this.

Graphic of your gift -
A simple .gif or .jpg file “picture” of your gift will do just fine. If you are using a PLR product that you have made unique to your self, I would suggest creating new graphics for your product in order to stand out from all those who are using the same graphics that came with the product. Some sponsors will require that you host this graphic on your domain server while others will allow you to simply upload it to their server.

Text Heading for your gift -
THE NAME OF YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE…

Description of your gift -
Not much more than a short and descriptive sentence here. Keep it Simple, list a few benefits…

Landing Page URL
This is where your new subscribers sign up to your list in order to receive your fr.ee gift. It is a simple HTML page that contains your autoresponder form. Some sponsors will supply this and require you use it to help create a uniform, consistent feeling of security to the visitor, while most others will require you to create your own.

Autoresponder details -
This is the HTML code for your email capture form. It is easily generated from within your autoresponder service.

Download Page URL -
This is where your new subscribers are sent to once they have confirmed their subscription to your list. It will contain a simple Thank You showing your appreciation for their subscription and a download link they can click to download their gift from your server.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
I have found it VERY IMPORTANT to require your new subscribers to “Double Opt-in” to your list, in fact, no one can join Any of the list I build without doing so! You have probably done this yourself many times when you join a mailing list. You simply set up your autoresponder to send them an initial email to make sure it was indeed THEM who entered their information into your autoresponders web form. If it was, they MUST click the confirmation link provided in the email in order to subscribe to your mailing list and receive their fr.ee gift. This is a safeguard for your subscribers as well as your self. Some of these subscribers will be signing up to So Many lists at these giveaway events they can easily forget who ‘you’ are and why you are sending them an email they ‘think’ they didn’t ask for. Some will even file a spam complaint against you, that is why you need to have their double opt-in information on file. This is why I use a professional service like Aweber.

As with any task, the more you actually do it, the easier it becomes. The Important thing is to Take Action and just Do It! And once you do, then you can add in a One Time Offer (OTO) page, set up redirect pages or simply place another offer on your download page below the download link to your gift. No matter what works best for you, the end result can be a Dramatic Increase in your subscriber base.

How To Double Your Reading Speed Right Now

I finally made it back! Fully refreshed and ready to Rock!

I found this on a site earlier today and felt I gained SO much just from reading these two techniques that I just had to share…

Do you read fast enough? Do you need an edge to satisfy the reading demands this “Information Age” has placed upon most of us? Would it help you to double your reading speed right now? One of my favorite tricks when I was teaching Psychology of Learning to graduate students was to offer them “Dr. Clarke’s Two-Minute Course in Speed-Reading.” I’d give them a timed reading test before, tell them the first technique I’m about to tell you. Then I’d time them while they first practiced the technique. Everyone improved their time immediately while learning the technique. You will, too.

O.K., here’s the secret of how to double your reading speed, right now, quick and dirty.

First, if you are reading this on the web page, stop and take a moment to print this article in hard copy. Then, grab a standard size bookmark (most are 8″ x 2″ or 6″ x 1 1/2″) or fold a sheet of paper to that size. Now, while reading the rest of this article (and from now on, everything else you read) place the bookmark lengthwise across the page with the lower edge immediately above the line of text you are currently reading. As you finish reading a line, pull the bookmark down to cover that line.

What that does for you, and why it will help you read twice as fast is just this simple: it prevents your eyes from backtracking and you from re- reading something you’ve already seen. Almost everyone has a tendency to re-read, and about half your potential speed is lost in that one habit. Prevent the habit and double your speed instantly!

But that’s not all. Having that mark in place helps you focus both your eyes and your attention on the line you are reading. Having a focus will additionally increase your speed. (Furthermore, you can gradually push yourself to even faster reading by moving the bookmark over the line just a little before you’ve actually finished the line, encouraging your eyes to move a bit faster than your norm. After breaking your backtracking habit, you may want to go further. An additional increase in speed can be made by learning to see words in groups. Have you ever noticed that it’s easier to read magazine and newspaper articles than most books? This is because the text is in columns and the lines are so much shorter that you can see an entire line at a glance. When lines are longer as in, say, a novel, you are likely to become discouraged by that length and break down the line to individual words to read one at a time.

To learn to read word groups instead of individual words, use magazines and newspapers with the bookmark technique. This time, though, you’re going to do some surgery on the bookmark. Cut a hole in the center of the bookmark; make that hole 1 line high and about three words long — just measure an average column in a magazine or newspaper for height and length. Then, when you read, place the hole in the bookmark over the words you are reading and move the bookmark from left to right as you read the line, then down to the beginning of the next line. This should help you to focus on groups of three words at a time, rather than one word at a time and should automatically shortens the lines for you so that you don’t feel pushed to try for a whole line at a time until you are ready. You can cut gradually bigger holes in your bookmark to adjust your ability to its maximum. Obviously, the same hole-in-the-bookmark technique will work as well — or better — with books. I recommend starting with newspapers and magazines because you can quickly learn to read an entire line at a glance, which is a great confidence builder.

If you have trouble with grouping words, check to see if you are sub-vocalizing — reading word by word because you are reading with your lips instead of your eyes. Put your finger on your lips as you read — if your lips move, you are sub-vocalizing. Also, listen to your thoughts as you read — can you “hear” each word articulated rather than seeing pictures without even noticing actual words? If you do find you are sub-vocalizing, break the habit by keeping a finger on your lips whenever your read, for about three weeks. That should do the trick.

The foregoing techniques, combined with lots of reading practice should give you an amazing increase in speed. It really is true that you can learn to read in excess of 1000 words per minute. Considering that the national average reading speed is 250 words per minute, you can see the advantages of being able to do so much more.
